This could be the seats of the economy class airplane after the coronavirus (with included screen)

With the aim of reducing costs and making profitable the routes of the airplane, airlines have prioritized reducing space to the detriment of passenger comfort. The economy class, the most affected by these policies, has seen in recent years how the seats were narrower and the aircraft had more rows, with an evident reduction of the legroom and the distance between passengers.

However, the devastating effect of coronavirus on the aeronautical sector it will force to change many things; it will force to increase the distances between passengers and avoid the risk of contact at the cabin interior. Therefore, many of the aforementioned savings proposals will probably fall on deaf ears. The current priority is to protect the traveler and mitigate the impact of the pandemic, something many companies are working on looking for solutions.

One of them is Aviointeriors, an Italian company dedicated to the manufacture of airplane seats for almost half a century, with proposals that were once as groundbreaking as Skyrider 3.0, a design that would allow you to travel practically on your feet, applauded by some and criticized by others. While at this point some propose the elimination of the seats in the middle, Aviointeriors presents two solutions apparently simple, the Glassafe and the Janus Both adopt the bulkhead as the main insulation element.


The first of his proposals, the Glassafe, has, in the opinion of its manufacturer, an important point in favor: can be adapted smooth to the seating of the economy class cabins, making proximity safer between passengers who share a line.

The layout is simple. It is a bulkhead of transparent material that surrounds the sides and top of the armchair creating a space around the individual, by way of protective shield what isolates from your neighbors. In this way, they avoid having contacts and interactions between them through the air, reducing the possibility of some type of contagion.

Aviointeriors highlights the easy to fix the kit to the seat so that airlines could install it quickly and without any problem. Furthermore, it is easy to clean and would ensure complete sanitation.

The second proposal baptized as Janus, referring to Janus, the god of Roman mythology represented with two opposite faces, guarantees, according to the manufacturer, the maximum isolation between passengers in the same row. Designed for three seats, is characterized by the reverse direction of center seat, contrary to that of the neighbors on both sides. In other words, while the window and aisle seats they watch forward, the one in the middle does backward.

The seats are completely surrounded by a transparent shield whose height isolates to the maximum of the adjacent occupants. Its installation, unlike the model Glassafe, would require some adaptation of the cabin, but, like this one, Aviointeriors ensures that its cleaning would not pose any difficulty for the disinfection equipment of the device.

Now, if you are forced to fly in the coming months, do not expect to find – still – any of the adaptations in the economy class cabins. And it is that, once the design process is completed, the seats must be approved by the authorities aeronautical. However, the Italian firm ensures that it could implement them in a term eleven months maximum.
