Georgia – A Decatur County agent died today after hours of agony in the hospital after being shot over the weekend during a police chase.

The lieutenant, identified as Justin Bedwell, is the second Georgia law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty this year.

“Our prayers go to the family, both blood & blue, of Lt. Justin Bedwell of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office who died this morning after being shot in the line of duty. He paid the ultimate sacrifice, and we thank him for his service,” said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation through his account on Twitter.

Bedwell was in critical condition since a shooting Saturday afternoon in Seminole County. Troy Arthur Phillips and Brad Phillips were arrested in connection with the incident, which began with an attempt to stop traffic, authorities said.
