More and more Italian cities and towns offer real bargains to attract people to move. Depopulation is one of the most real problems the country is experiencing and, above all, it makes a dent in small corners. This is the case of the small town of Bivona, in Sicily, which now offers houses for only one euro for those who wish to live there.
The young people have left the town in search of opportunities to find work. This has meant almost forgetting it, as well as that of the remaining inhabitants. They are older and sad to see how the legacy disappears.
How to choose to live in Bivona?
Bivona’s problem is not isolated. Many are the people who see how young people disappear, without giving them a chance for the future. This is the case, for example, of Molise, where officials offer up to $27,000 for those willing to move there and open their own business.
The municipality of Bivona, now, has decided to join the initiative and virtually give away many of the houses that remain in the town for only one euro. To do so, they intend to expropriate the houses that are empty if nobody comes to claim them.
In the coming days, these homes will be published on the town’s website, as well as several maps, details, and images.
And, according to Ángela Cannizzaro, councilor of the culture of the town;
“In the last 40 years, our population has been reduced by half. Today we have only 3,800 residents. ”
