A lot of fake news circulates on the Internet every day and several users end up believing them. Proof of this was the speculation that Iceland offered foreigners a payment of $1,800 per month for marrying one of its citizens.
According to this information, the initiative was part of a birth project, as it was indicated that of the 320 thousand inhabitants of Iceland, the majority were already over 40 years old and that in the future the country would run out of young people.
This resulted in thousands of Icelandic women receiving numerous friend requests through Facebook and harassment messages to marry them.
However, all this was ruled out by the Icelandic Consulate that contacted ‘Ecuavisa’. In addition, the demographic data were wrong, since Iceland has more men than women: there are approximately 1007 men for every 1000 women.
So if you want to marry an Icelandic, do it for love and not for money.
