Houston Fire Department investigator dies in shooting

Houston, Texas – An investigator from the Houston Fire Department died early Friday after a shooting in the northwest of the city.

Police reported that the incident occurred in the 2100 block of Seamist Drive and W. 18th Street around 2:30 a.m.

According to reports from authorities, investigators have been uncovering a series of car fires in the Timbergrove and Heights areas that occurred this week.

When they tried to deliver a court order to a person they considered a suspect, it began in a shooting confrontation in which the suspect died and the investigator was seriously injured.

The man was already dead when the officers arrived while investigator Lemuel Bruce was transported emergency to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died at 4:43 a.m.

Bruce, 44, had worked for the Houston Fire Department for 17 years and had been in the arson investigation unit for 5 years. He is survived by his wife and children, ages 12 and 8.
