Austin Police are investigating a shooting involving an officer in Northeast Austin on early Friday morning.

The incident happened around 12:03 am on East Highway 290 Westbound Service Road between Cameron Road and Interstate 35.

Police say officers got behind the vehicle, turned on the lights, and stopped the vehicle. As they got out of their vehicle, the person in the car started shooting at them. Both officers responded to the fire. The officer and the suspect sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was healthy.

The shooting was recorded by body cameras worn by officers and by patrols.

Police said the suspect was in his 20s and 30 but has not yet been identified. The authorities also do not know the relationship between the suspect and the victim who called 911.

Both officers will be on leave pending the investigation into the shooting.
