The NXT roster is ready for a new TakeOver, which will take place tonight in Portland, Oregon. It is the first special after the War Games in November and the stakes for the participants are very high given the proximity to the WrestleMania period, the hottest for WWE.
This time the card is made up of six matches, of which four are titled. The main event match between Adam Cole and Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship. As you well remember, last year Tommaso Ciampa had to vacate the title due to an injury and has not yet had his chance to regain possession of it.
After making his return last October, NXT TakeOver: Portland will tap Ciampa’s first opportunity to recover his “Goldie”, snatching it from the life of the one who dominated NXT throughout 2019, Adam Cole.
The NXT Women’s Championship will be up for grabs when Bianca Belair takes on champion Rhea Ripley. Belair got this opportunity by winning a Battle Royal a few weeks ago, but the rivalry between the two suffered a twist when the Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair stepped in.
The latter was by Rhea Ripley for a match at WrestleMania, but will the champion manage to keep her belt overcoming Bianca Belair’s threat? After a surprising return to NXT, Finn Bàlor turned his back on the fans when he hit Johnny Gargano causing a neck injury that forced him to skip War Games and Survivor Series.
Three months later, these two superstars will finally be against each other in the ring to put an end to a rivalry that has become personal; Finn Bàlor has promised to break Johnny Wrestling’s dream, but will it really be so? In a rather negative moment for the Undisputed Era, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly will be forced to defend the NXT tag team titles against the winners of the last edition of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle, now known as Broserweights.
Although this alliance is young, Dunne and Riddle have shown good alchemy, so much so as to present themselves as a real threat to the undisputed champions. The NXT North American Championship will also be up for grabs when Keith Lee defends his belt against his longtime rival Dominik Dijakovic.
