WrestleCon has announced the cancellation of all its events scheduled for the WrestleMania 36 weekend. This is one of the main pro wrestling conventions for the WrestleMania weekend, held continuously since 2005 in the same city as the major event. from WWE.
Following WWE’s announcement of the transfer of WrestleMania to the Performance Center, WrestleCon has confirmed the cancellation of the events, autograph signings, activities and fan meetings they had organized. WrestleCon has been affected by the WWE decision, as the McMahons company has acted before there was an official cancellation by Tampa or the state of Florida. This is relevant, since in that case Highspots, the company that organizes WrestleCon, could have gone to the insurers to save the money invested and avoid a great economic problem due to a reason for force majeure.
However, the current situation is the worst possible scenario for Highspots and WrestleCon. Mike Bochicchio, owner of Highspots, confirmed in a video broadcast this weekend that they established contracts with hotels and venues, and if he canceled, he had to pay everything in full, including the more than 1,000 rooms reserved for talents and fans. Bochicchio confirmed in the same video that being a small business if they had to pay everything, they would have to sell their own home and declare bankruptcy for Highspots.
Through a Twitter message, WrestleCon confirms that the hotels do not accept the “impossibility clause”, since the performance of the shows remains technically “legal and possible”, despite the state of emergency in the United States. They also don’t accept returns for groups that have booked on high-demand dates, as happens during the WrestleMania weekend period. Still, WrestleCon has released that it expects the company to change its mind after analyzing the situation.
WrestleCon has started the process of returning fans who had purchased tickets to their shows. All returns will be made within 7 days. Through Twitter, they also promise to be in Los Angeles during the weekend of WrestleMania 37, a show that will take place on March 28, 2021.
Thanks for asking Peter. Unfortunately Mania cancelling before the city or state actually puts us in a bad situation with our venues. pic.twitter.com/tm6tb7l75o
