One of the mysteries that last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite left us has been solved during this week’s broadcast. During the match between Cody and Ortiz at the start of the show, it has been confirmed that Jake “The Snake” Roberts‘ client is nothing more and nothing less than Lance Archer, Former IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion.
While AEW originally announced that Lance Archer’s debut would take place last week, various reports emerged throughout the week that indicated certain changes in the character’s creative direction, so they would have been reserving their debut for a future event. Said debut has taken place today when Cody was in the middle of a fight against Ortiz in the Dynamite opener. Both Archer and Roberts went to ringside to witness the match and even went so far as to threaten with accessing ringside at some point, but they ended up leaving before Cody obtained his victory.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts interrupted Cody last week to indicate that it was his next target. In a promo that did not leave anyone indifferent, Roberts told Cody that he had a client and that he would soon be bringing darkness with him to the company, but not before asking Cody to bring his “one-trick pony” Arn Anderson to his corner, because he will be in the corner of his client. Roberts ended the segment advising “never turn your back on someone you respect or fear.”
Lance Archer has spent most of the past decade fighting at New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he went on to capture the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship and IWGP Tag Team Championships twice alongside Davey Boy Smith Jr. In recent months, Archer decided to reinvent himself, something that boosted his career at the company and allowed him to gain greater popularity, largely helped by the good reviews garnered at his meetings. The last appearances of Archer in the Japanese company were February during The New Beginning in USA tour.
