A man suffered second-degree burns after being sprayed with a strange liquid in a random attack in Midtown Manhattan.

It happened around 10 p.m. on Monday, July 5, near the southwest corner of West 47th Street and Sixth Avenue.

The 57-year-old victim was walking on the sidewalk when an unknown man approached her from behind.

The subject threw an unknown liquid at him and then fled.

There was no exchange of words between the two men, according to police.

The victim went to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was treated for second-degree burns to his back.

The suspect is described as a fair-skinned adult male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches and 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

The last time he was seen he was shirtless and wearing black shorts.
