Chicago, Illinois – A light dusting of snow covered the grass in far-northwest suburban communities like Marengo.

Most of the Chicago area experienced rain, but parts of Elgin saw enough snowflakes to cover some cars. O’Hare Airport reported a small amount of snow Monday morning, and Barrington Hills and Mount Prospect also saw some flakes.

There are some places that are close to freezing in the I-39 corridor where there may be some slippery spots on the roads.

The precipitation was mostly snow as it entered Chicago, although it barely accumulated.

The snow turned into a mixture of rain and snow further east. Either way, the roads will be wet, so be careful when traveling.

Temperatures should return to normal by Halloween.
