Chicago, Illinois – The National Weather Service issued flooding and dense fog warnings Thursday morning for much of northern Illinois as the flooding caused traffic accidents and congestion on area highways. The alert remains active until 9.30 am this Thursday.
Some of the slowest points that are registered at this time of the morning would be:
On I-90/94 Dan Ryan. Northbound. At 18th St. An accident caused lane closures causing delays of up to almost an hour. Lake Shore Dr or surrounding streets like Halsted would be a good alternative. Authorities are in the process of clearing the highway.
I-90/94 Kennedy has flooded in the tunnel that is in the Hubbard Tunnel (between Hubbard st & Wayman St). Affecting both directions. The slowest traffic is in the direction of Downtown Chicago.
I-55 also has flood problems affecting both directions. The slow spots are between Pulaski and Kedzie.
I-290 has had flooding off Des Plaines, mostly affecting westbound traffic.
Get out early and drive with caution.
