At the moment, many are thinking more about hygiene – everything should be free of germs and viruses. But what about the towels?
Towels should now be washed more often
Towels are the perfect place for germs and bacteria to grow if they are not washed often enough. Because the unwanted roommates like to nest in the damp tissue and multiply. The rule is: wash your bath towel at least once a week. Ideally, a towel should be washed after three uses. If you are sick, you should wash the bath towels more often to avoid new infections or the spread of family members or roommates.
Wash washcloths daily
Washcloths that you use to clean your face should only be used once and then washed in the washing machine. And small towels hanging next to the sink should be replaced every day, especially in a larger family. Because they are often permanently moist and therefore the perfect home for germs and bacteria.
Expert recommendation: Two tea towels
When it comes to tea towels, some will be surprised: These kitchen helpers should also be replaced every day. If you don’t want to do this, however, you should follow the following expert tip: Always have two tea towels with different colors in the kitchen – one should only be used to dry clean dishes and the other only for all other cleaning purposes (wiping up spills, hands dry, etc.) can be used.
Tip: add a disinfectant
The towels should be washed as hot as possible in the machine. Many (especially those made of 100 percent cotton) tolerate 95 degrees and the hot wash program. The addition of special disinfectant detergent is also advisable.
