Authorities in Houston released a photo of a Hispanic woman they arrested and who is accused of beating his wife to death with a wine cooler last Sunday in New Jersey.
Houston Police were contacted by authorities in New Jersey after they found out that the suspect was heading to Houston by bus.
Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus was being wanted by the New Jersey Police for the murder of his wife Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus.
The aforementioned police departments collaborated to trace the accused until I found her in Houston.
Investigators in Houston said the suspect was coming by bus from New York and that they were able to intercept her. They did not disclose further details of the arrest, merely saying that it was carried out without further incident.
The defendant was detained at the Harris County Jail and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Gavilanez-Alectus has been charged with murder and two gun offenses in the murder of his wife. Authorities have so far not revealed what caused the attack or what led them to believe that his wife was responsible for it.
“The investigation revealed that a cylindrical container was used to cool wine when the murder was committed,” said an initial joint statement.
“The injuries sustained by Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus were consistent with the implementation of this article. The additional investigation finally determined that Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus, in fact, caused the death of the victim. ”
