More than 30 counts of child sexual abuse were brought against a pastor. Detectives anticipate more victims in the course of the investigation.
The Siler City Police Department (SCPD) arrested Oscar Vera Jiménez, 53, on Saturday, accused of raping a child multiple times.
According to the Opencorporates database , Jiménez is the only registered agent for Iglesia Pentecostés Espírito Santo in Siler City, 50 miles west of Raleigh. Authorities did not share in which congregation the pastor participated.
SCPD lieutenant Jason Boyd told local Chatham News that they will follow up on any person or child with whom Jiménez has had contact. “We anticipate more charges,” he added.
The crimes occurred within a month, authorities said. The more than 30 counts include 10 counts of first-degree kidnapping, 10 counts of indecent liberties with a child, nine counts of sexual assault, and five counts of sexual offense with a child.
Their role of trust in the community would have been decisive in isolating the victims, the SCPD said in a statement. The pastor “had access to other minors and possible victims,” they added.
Jiménez was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.
