FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina – Fayetteville Police are investigating a shooting involving an officer from that jurisdiction. The incident occurred Thursday on Raeford Rd. At approximately 4 pm.
According to the official report, agents of the Fayetteville Police and the US Marshals Corps were trying to deliver an arrest warrant to a fugitive when one of the agents detonated his weapon against the subject.
Fayetteville Police Chief Gina Hawkins told a news conference that the suspect was carrying multiple firearms while attempting to capture him.
Hawkins said the alleged fugitive was wanted on two counts of rape in Tennessee, and the Marshals Corps received information about his possible location in the Fayetteville area.
The suspect was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after serious injuries. The officer involved was placed in administrative duties while the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation conducts the respective investigations.
“The Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an internal investigation to ensure that all departmental policies and procedures were followed during the incident,” Fayetteville Police said Thursday in a statement. So far the identities of those involved have not been revealed.
