Los Angeles, California – An elderly couple was evicted this Friday from their home in South Gate, although the specific causes that led to this situation are still being investigated, the case is disturbing since a moratorium that prevents evictions due to the Coronavirus crisis continues in California.
It was the house where for 40 years they built a home and where their family grew up. However, this Friday Rufino Morales, 85, and his wife Norma were evicted from the place where they thought they were going to spend their old age.
“The policeman said it had to be closed and as they are the ones with the weapons,” Rufino said when recounting the moment in which they were taken from the house. “They broke badges and everything and closed. So, well, I ask for help, that they help me stay with my house,” says Rufino with a broken voice.
The son of those affected claims that this is an illegal eviction, according to him, caused by a real estate agent, a situation that is still being investigated. “Unfortunately, he made a fraud by forging his signature with the sister who is a notary public and, as a result, they have literally stolen his house,” said Rufino Morales, son of the evicted couple.
Mrs. Morales needs dialysis treatments and suffers from high blood pressure, so the situation in which they have been left can worsen their health.
Joe Delgado, from ACCE, assures that “this company that is trying to evict this couple has to think about what it is doing. The laws say that they cannot evict this family ”.
Los Angeles Media contacted the company that ordered this eviction but has not yet responded. For now, Mr. Morales only asked that “they remember that they have mothers and fathers, that’s all he would tell them.”
