Los Angeles, California – Two siblings died after being run over Tuesday night in the Westlake Village area, northwest of Los Angeles, in what could have been an illegal race.
One of the minors died at the scene of the accident that occurred at 7:15 pm at the intersection of Saddle Mountain Drive and Triunfo Canyon Road. Authorities reported that the second minor died a few hours later in a hospital.
Rebecca Grossman, 57, co-founder and president of the Grossman Burn Center, was arrested on two counts of vehicular manslaughter and was set on a $ 2 million bonds, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Sheriff’s officials said six family members were crossing the three-way intersection that does not have a stoplight. They were all passing in a marked pedestrian zone when the mother heard a car speeding up. Both parents tried to protect their children, but two of the minors were too far away at the intersection and were run over.
Captain Salvador Becerra assured that they believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. In addition, he reported that they are investigating the possibility that Grossman had left the scene.
In the place they found a child’s helmet, a scooter on the side of the street, and the bodies of two children rolled over, on the pedestrian crossing, the Los Angeles County Fire Department report reads.
Witnesses to the accident told media that it is likely that the minors were run over in what could have been an illegal car race. Neighbors indicated that another driver may be involved in the incident.
