Los Angeles, California – A registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday as suspected of kidnapping and rape in Hollywood, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported.
The suspect was identified as Joaquin Rivas, 51, who is accused of a rape that was described as “brutal.”
Authorities reported that the alleged kidnapping and rape occurred between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. According to the investigations, the event occurred in the Melrose Avenue and Hobart Boulevard area said Officer Mike Lopez of the LAPD Media Relations Section. The woman was walking in the area when she was detained by the man, however, she woke up the next day after being raped.
Rivas was arrested Sunday when investigators were carrying out a search warrant on Clinton Street and Oxford Avenue, López said.
The District Attorney’s Office has filed multiple charges related to the kidnapping and rape against Rivas, who is arrested on $10 million bails.
According to the Megan’s Law website, Rivas was convicted in 2006 of sexual penetration with a foreign object by force or fear and released in 2009.
