The search for the actress had been difficult due to adverse lake conditions that “did not allow visibility more than a foot in the lake”, according to a release from VCSD.
The search for the actress, 33 years old and of Puerto Rican origin, who was part of the cast of the series’ Glee” was activated on July 8 at 4:00 p.m. after receiving an emergency call from Piru Lake, which is inside a reserve located 55 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
According to a report from the authorities, “Naya Rivera rented a boat on the lake Wednesday afternoon and went on an excursion with her four-year-old son.”
A few hours later, “the boat was found adrift in the northern part of the lake with the boy alone on board. Rivera’s son told investigators that he and his mother had been swimming in the lake, and he returned to the boat, but not Rivera, “according to the release of the VCSD.
A day after the initial report, authorities said there was a possibility that Rivera had drowned, and the operation to find her had been changed to one for recovering her body.
The surveillance video in place shows that Rivera and his son were the only occupants of the boat when it left the shore. Until now there is no evidence that the act was a premeditated crime, Buschow said.
Rivera’s 4-year-old son is from a marriage to the actor Ryan Dorsey. The couple divorced in June 2018, after almost four years of marriage.
Actress Naya Rivera portrayed Santana, a cheerleader on the musical comedy ‘Glee’ that aired on the Fox network from 2009 to 2015.
Rivera appeared in 113 episodes of the series and dated the co-star. Mark Salling, who committed suicide in 2018 after pleading guilty to charges of child pornography.
In 2013 another actor from the cast also passed away, Cory Monteith, due to an overdose.
